Toni was worn out after the long trip on the ATV to Wheeler Geologic so I took off to explore the way to Bristol Head. It is a 24 trip by the highway towards Lake City from Creede so I trailered the ATV to the parking lot across from the road going to Bristol Head. This was by far the most interesting spot of them all. I highly recommend it for everyone that are in the area.
On the way up, I did a little side trip to Crystal Lake.
This shot was taken at the top of Bristol Head at 12,730 feet of elevation. Those are people in the distance. The 20 miles of road to this point is good except for the last mile or so which turns very rocky.
Photographs can't come close to capturing the view from up here.
Me.
A view of a lake down below. If you look hard, you can see a pontoon boat on the lake. Yep, you are right. I can't see it either but a guy with some binoculars pointed it out.
Way down below is Creede. You can see our campground and the airstip nearby.
This picture was taken from the spot where the people were in the first picture. There were two Jeeps there at the same time and one of them is parked on the other point.
On the way back to the Jeep to load up, it started to rain like the dickens with small hail mixed in. Very uncomfortable. I had rain gear but had failed to purchase a helmet with a front visor so the sleet and rain against my face doing 35 miles per hour wasn't fun. As soon as I got back to the MH, we loaded up and drove to South Fork to buy a helmet with a fold down face visor. Back home the chances of this happening are slim but pretty frequent out here.
It rains almost every day here in August, which makes it hard to get very much outdoor stuff done. I think we will avoid August next year and just suffer in the Texas heat. I am trying to put 25 hours on our new ATV so I can get the 25 hour service done at the dealer. I still lack about 5 hours.
