July 20, 2012 - Last Day in Lake City, CO

The group made another trip up Cinnamon Pass and did side trips over to Carson ghost town and up the trail to the deserted town of Sherman.  It was totally a wonderful trip with lots and lots of good pictures.

Wanda, and little 2 year old grandaughter Molly, about ready to take off.

                              More of the group.

By here, we made it somewhere pretty high.  It all began to look alike to me.

We made to about half way to the top here.

Joey, Christie, and daughter.  Alzheimers has my mind so I couldn't remember Kinzie's name?

Our hosts, the Morgan family!  We are so glad they invited us to come along on the trip.

Here is a cute older couple!  Oh wait, this is Toni and me.

This was our first major stop at the Carson ghost town.

         View from Carson.

Toni and Molly.  What a precious child!

Here is that cute couple again with their trusty Jeep.  This was taken by Joey at the top of a steep climb.  Bill went on up higher and had a hard time backing his four wheeler back down.

View of the group going down the slope!

View of Carson from above.  We went up a really high little hill.

We went over to another side trail to Sherman and found this nice waterfall.  I took this picture by     leaning out over the little stream and holding my camera out.

Wanda on a rock above the falls.

Joey is all set to bring Molly onto a rock above the falls.

Kids, and adults playing in the stream above the falls.

My sweet wife, Toni, observing the action.

Final view of the day.  This was taken at the top of a really steep climb where Tina's husband nearly rolled his four wheeler backwards and we followed in our Jeep.  It was a really good day of wheeling!!

LATE ADDITION:  Joey, Tony, Christie, Kinzie, and Jesse all went up to the deer lake area late in the evening and were able to get the following pictures of a bull moose!

July 18 - Off-road to Silverton

Toni and I went in our Jeep following the church group back up Cinnamon Pass today.  When we got to the top, the folks on the four wheelers were planning to go back down after they ate lunch.  Since we were only 10 miles from Silverton (down the mountain), we decided to go into town after Toni said, "Where's the town and where's the money!".    Our boys can relate to that from a deer hunting trip where one of the party was having trouble cooking breakfast and the lady was ready to go buy some so the quote was hers.

BTW, I forgot to tell about going to a Michael Martin Murphy Concert and meal the night before with several of our friends.  It was really good and he is quite the entainer.

Anyway, we drove into Silverton and ate lunch at the Brown Bear Cafe.  Very good food and the cobbler with ice cream was worth the 45 minute trip!  The 32 mile trip back over Engineer Pass only took us 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Our little Jeep has been serving us well and the trip was much smoother after letting the air in the tires down to 20 pounds.

Mountain goat we saw on the way up Cinnamon Pass.

Thousands of domestic sheep eating all of the goats' grazing!

                                  Snow in the mountain top.

They build houses everywhere up here.  The only access to this one is across the foot bridge!

There were a lot of beaver houses.

The speck is a picture of a moose that we took late in the evening today.

I have about decided to quit taking pictures of the mountains!  If you have seen one mountain view, you have seen all of them.  Of course, there may be exceptions

July 17th - Another Off-road Trip

More folks from the church arrived so we took another trip up Engineers Pass to do some side trips.

Joey and Christie were ahead of us in their Jeep.

Wanda and her great grandaughter, Molly, playing in a little stream.

Trip to Top of Engineer Pass

Our group made a trip to the top of Engineer Pass.  I didn't realize my camera battery was so low and was able to take only four shots!   I plan to never let that happen again.

Toni and I went in our Jeep and Joey and his wife rented one.  After we left the summit of Engineers Pass, the rest of the group headed back on their four wheelers and a RZR and we took another route by going over Cinnamon Pass to finish the balance of the Alpine Loop.

The following shots were taken at the top of Engineers Pass:

The white dots to the right and mid-way up the picture is a herd of domestic sheep.

Church Group to the Mountains

All but one of the church group made it and we decided to make a run up the Engineer Pass road.

Here is a picture of everyone getting ready to go.

                                      Old dam along a creek.

                            Old ruins from a mine.

                                 Our group in line.

Waterfall seen from the 4X4 trail up Nellie's Creek.

Here at Capitol City, it started to rain pretty hard so we all turned around and headed back.
