July 18 - Off-road to Silverton

Toni and I went in our Jeep following the church group back up Cinnamon Pass today.  When we got to the top, the folks on the four wheelers were planning to go back down after they ate lunch.  Since we were only 10 miles from Silverton (down the mountain), we decided to go into town after Toni said, "Where's the town and where's the money!".    Our boys can relate to that from a deer hunting trip where one of the party was having trouble cooking breakfast and the lady was ready to go buy some so the quote was hers.

BTW, I forgot to tell about going to a Michael Martin Murphy Concert and meal the night before with several of our friends.  It was really good and he is quite the entainer.

Anyway, we drove into Silverton and ate lunch at the Brown Bear Cafe.  Very good food and the cobbler with ice cream was worth the 45 minute trip!  The 32 mile trip back over Engineer Pass only took us 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Our little Jeep has been serving us well and the trip was much smoother after letting the air in the tires down to 20 pounds.

Mountain goat we saw on the way up Cinnamon Pass.

Thousands of domestic sheep eating all of the goats' grazing!

                                  Snow in the mountain top.

They build houses everywhere up here.  The only access to this one is across the foot bridge!

There were a lot of beaver houses.

The speck is a picture of a moose that we took late in the evening today.

I have about decided to quit taking pictures of the mountains!  If you have seen one mountain view, you have seen all of them.  Of course, there may be exceptions
